The Endeavour 500km relay was another amazing challenge this year. Sixteen relay teams dragged themselves out of bed around 2.30am on Friday 18th of November to line up for their 4.30am start at Griffith University's Nathan campus.
The first day was absolutely gruelling with runners having to fight heat and exhaustion all the way to Boonah. After dinner the day was not over, with teams getting into their buses to travel to Warwick where they could rest their bodies for the night.
Paul Trevethan from Body Leadership Australia caught up with the teams late that night, for team meetings and then bed around 11pm. Beginning with a fresh 3.30am start Paul was kept very busy Saturday looking after the Brisbane Bayside Runners as well as other teams. The run was beginning to take its toll, with lower backs, calfs and knees all needing help.
Finally the runners made it to the Saturday finish just outside Toowoomba where they all had a well-deserved drink. Teams spent Saturday night in Toowoomba at the university campus for what seemed like a few minutes sleep before another 3.30am start. The last day of the Endeavour run is a killer with bodies breaking down and Paul was kept very busy taping, stretching and offering a hand where he could. At long last everyone was ecstatic to reach the finish at Fernvale around 2pm.
The Endeavour Challenge was once again a great success raising over $50 000 for the Endeavour Foundation's quest to provide opportunities for people with disabilities. Congratulations must go to the Gold Coast's Team Victory who took out the overall win. Our Bayside Runners must also be congratulated for winning the Team Spirit Award, with their always positive attitudes they definitely deserve it.
At Body Leadership we always enjoy our involvement in the run and wish to thank the Bayside Runners team for once again inviting us to be involved. After noticing how tight all our runners were becoming we have also put together a short video to show how you can release your glutes. We look forward to taking on the challenge again in 2012!
