BODY LEADERSHIP HOLDS FREE SEMINAR

ON FELDENKRAIS METHOD®

Body Leadership was excited to host our free seminar on managing pain and improving
function on Wednesday 18 May with President of the Feldenkrais Guild of Australia,
Queensland Division, Lauren D'Arsie. Our attendees were gathered at 6.30pm sharp with
the question on everyone's lips, what is Feldenkrais?

As Lauren introduced herself and the Feldenkrais Method® she made it clear that
Feldenkrais is actually easier to experience than it is to explain. Basically she summarrised
that the Feldenkrais Method® involves using gentle movement to increase range, decrease
pain, improve body symmetry and ultimately comfort.

To demonstrate the techniques involved Lauren took the group through a 20 minute
movement class using a combination of standing and sitting exercises. It was amazing to
see the dramatic difference in available movement and range for all our guests after such a
short session.

Afterwards, Lauren discussed some of the habitual movements that we use without thinking
that cause us to limit our movement and range so much. Through using Feldenkrais Lauren
explained that you can explore all new options for movement. She used the example of
Roger Federer as someone who is beautiful to watch as he has all his movements available
to him.

Lauren provided practical examples to our guests of how the Feldenkrais Method® can be
used to decrease tension when sitting for long periods, in preparation for sport as well
as recovery. She also discussed Feldenkrais strategies that can help with all age groups,
from the young with conditions such as aspergers and low muscle tone right through to
everyday people, as well as elite athletes. Lauren finished with an inspiring quote from Dr
Moshe Feldenkrais the founder of the Feldenkrais Method® explaining that movement can
make the impossible possible, the possible easy and the easy elegant.

We would like to give a big thankyou to Lauren for such an insightful seminar. To find out
