Brisbane physiotherapy practice, Body Leadership Australia kicked off their 2011 Community
Education series with a bang on Tuesday the 15th of February.
The free seminar held at the Body Leadership office focussed on 'Functional Fitness' with
Ex-Queensland Ballet Principal Dancer, Tony Lewis as the guest speaker.
Tony recapped his experience within the industry paying special note to one memorable occasion
with A Current Affair.
"A Current Affair wanted to do an experiment to see who were the better athletes, the Queensland
Ballet Dancers or the Queensland Reds Rugby Union team," he said.
"They had these big footy players doing ballet lifts with the girls and us dancers strapping on
footy boots to go through drills. By the end of the day we had lost one football player for the
season after he injured his back lifting Kimberley Davies and I completely ruptured my ACL and
was out of action for 12 months."

Within this time Tony had intense physiotherapy which spurred his passion for 'functional'
rehabilitation strategies. Tony shared examples of designing exercise programs to suit the
individual's needs, from the person that spends 10 hours a day in front of a computer right
up to professional athletes.
Body Leadership Australia Physiotherapist, Reese Kalleitner also addressed the crowd with some
tips when beginning physio treatment.
'A solid postural base is essential before attempting any physiotheray strengthening program for
lower back pain, neck pain and other areas," he said.
"Programs focus on retraining the deepest layer of muscles to increase performance and prevent
injury long term which makes getting your core strength right at the start that much more important."
Body Leadership Australia was very excited to start their Community Education Series with a
full house and are looking forward to hosting their next seminar on nutrition very soon.
